Discord is mainly known as the texting platform to stay connected with people of the same mindset. But this fantastic social connectivity platform also allows the user to keep the communication via voice and video. In case you didn’t have an idea about it, it is obvious to get puzzled about how to turn speaker on Discord.

It can happen when you are relatively new to Discord and barely have knowledge about all its functions. The audio feature in Discord through your device’s speaker comes in handy when you are on the go and need to stay active at the same time.

Where is Discord Speaker Button

Before you try to put Discord on the speaker, you first need to find the Discord speaker button. Because without locating the speaker button, it won’t be possible to perform the desired action. The speaker button is part of basic Discord settings, and you will find it there.

There will be a “Voice and Audio” section among all the Discord settings sections. As the speaker is related to audio, it will surely be a part of this “Voice and Audio” section. Then from the audio section, there will be a portion named “Audio Output Device,” and the speaker button will be present there.

The entire process will be described in the in-detail discussion, and hopefully, things will get even clearer through that.

How to Turn a Speaker on Discord – The In-Detail Discussion about the Entire Process

It becomes quite difficult when you are doing something else and need to text on Discord chat. That’s when Discord’s audio and speaker feature comes into the game. Many Discord users worldwide want to learn the process of putting Discord on speaker.

Those users either use their computers or mobile devices to run Discord. That’s why we are here with the procedure for both PC and smartphones, which are briefly discussed below:

How to Turn a Speaker on Discord – For PC

When you are on your desktop or laptop and using Discord, here are the steps on how you can turn the speaker on:

Step – 1: Access the Discord Settings

First, open Discord software on your PC and log into your account by providing all the necessary information. Doing so will direct you to your account dashboard with various options in front. Then it would be best if you searched for a gear-like icon on that dashboard.

The icon will be on the lower-left corner of the dashboard with some other icons beside it. It is also known as the Settings icon, and you will have to click on it right after locating that desired icon.

Step – 2: Select and Enter the “Voice and Audio” Sub-Section

The last click on the gear-like icon will make you access the Discord Settings section. After entering, a sidebar on the left of your screen will have many options for the sub-sections. Among all the options and sub-sections of that sidebar, you need to look for the option named “Voice and Audio.”

This desired sub-section will be somewhere in there, which might need you to scroll down a bit. Keep scrolling down and even scroll twice or more in case you are accidentally unable to find it on the first attempt.

Sooner or a bit later, hopefully, you will be able to locate the option name and then click on it to enter the particular sub-section.

Step-3: Click on “Output Devices” and Select “Speakers”

As you are in the “Voice Settings” portion, there will be various options regarding it. At first, there will be two categories named “Input Devices” and “Output Devices.” Along with that, you will also find two sliders for increasing and decreasing the volume of both the input devices and the output devices.

To turn the speaker on Discord, you won’t require the “Input Devices” category. Instead, the “Output Devices” is the category you need to focus entirely on for the task. The “Output Devices” will probably be set as “Default” in the box when you first enter there.

There will also be a dropdown icon just beside the “Default,” which is the right portion of the box. You need to click on that icon to unveil the options within, and all of those are the audio output devices. Those can be the speakers and headphones that are connected to your computer at that time.

Now, as there can be some options, look for the option starting with the word “Speakers” and other things within the bracket. It will be just like the one that is shown in the picture below if you face difficulties identifying it. As you select that option, you are all done selecting the speaker.

In this case, you won’t have to press any “Save the Changes” button as it will be saved automatically by the Discord algorithm. When you are on a Discord call, the sound will appear through your speakers.

If you need to change the output device while still on the call, click on the microphone icon. It will reveal the output devices and select the desired one from there while talking to a person.

How to Turn a Speaker on Discord – For Smartphone

Though most people think Discord’s computer and mobile interface are quite identical, there are functional dissimilarities. Putting the Discord smartphone version on the speaker is more accessible than the PC version.

So, if you are using Discord on your smartphone, whether it is an Android phone or iPhone, here are the steps to follow to turn the speaker on:

Step – 1: Press the Volume Icon While in a Call

You may want to switch the audio output device on the mobile version of Discord. The first thing you need to do is to be on a call with any of your friends on Discord. At that moment, you will see some icons appearing in the lower section of the mobile screen.

There will be four icons for various purposes, and the second one will look like a volume icon. You need to press that icon without cutting the ongoing call to get directed into the next phase.

Step – 2: Select the Speaker

Because of your action in the previous phase, a small menu bar will appear on the screen. There will be two different options on that menu bar regarding the audio output device with a headline of “Select Audio Output.” Those two options will be named “Speaker” and “Phone.”

Between those two, you will have to tap on the “Speaker” option to select it. To ensure that option is selected, check whether the small circle beside that option is filled. Because of that, the speaker will be saved as the audio output device of Discord automatically.

You won’t have to do anything else as from then on, the audio will come out through your smartphone’s speaker. Whether you are using an Android phone or iPhone, the procedure is the same as described above.

How to Turn Speaker Mode On For Any Voice Channel

The voice channels on Discord are specially for voice and video chats without calling anyone to join rooms. When you are on a voice channel, you can even share your screen and stream your gameplay or anything interesting in front of the audience.

You may want to go hands-free on any voice channel, and you can do that whenever you want. But you need to manually perform the task by turning the speaker mode on for the voice channel you want. Here are the step-by-step processes of how you can perform the task:

Step – 1: Select the Voice Server You Want to Join

Open Discord on your device and log into your account just like you did in the previous parts. When you are on the Discord dashboard, there will be a hamburger-like icon in the top-left corner of the screen. You must tap on it first and select the desired server you want to join.

Step – 2: Join the Voice Channel

As you are on the voice server, you must join a voice channel to go hands-free. There will be a list of the voice channels on the main screen of the voice server. You need to choose a voice channel if you don’t have a preferred one. Until you find the desired channel, you need to keep scrolling.

When you find the desired voice channel, a “Speaker Icon” will be beside the channel name. You need to tap on the voice channel name and then the “Join Voice” button to finally join that voice channel of the voice server you entered earlier.

Step – 3: Turn on the Speaker Mode to Go Hand-Free

In the next part, you will have to tap on the “Speaker Icon” beside the name of the voice channel. Because of this action, you will manually turn the speaker mode on and can go hand-free. So, from then on, you will be able to enjoy the conversation with your speaker.

How to Go Hands-Free on Private Calls

The previous process was about going hands-free on the voice channels. But when you want to go hands-free on private calls, here’s how you can do it:

Step – 1: Select a Friend to Make a Call

As earlier, you need to open Discord app on your device and log into your account. As you reach the Discord dashboard, a “Hamburger Menu Icon” will be in the upper-left corner of the screen. You need to click on that icon to reach the next phase until the “Direct Messages” option appears on the upper-left portion.

Then, you need to select a friend from there whom you can call as you plan to go hands-free on private calls.

Step – 2: Go Hands-Free on Private Calls

After selecting the friend, you will enter the private voice chat window with two buttons in the upper-right corner. Those two buttons or icons are generally for audio and video calls. Make a call by tapping on any of those icons and wait until your friend joins the chat.

When your friend joins, you need to tap on the “Speaker Icon,” which will allow you to go hands-free while you are on a private call.
