When you switch on your Windows 10 pc, and it fails to load, you may discover that the disk drive (HDD/SSD) is not visible or mentioned on the boot menu. In this post, we’ll go through various options for fixing hard drive not showing up in boot priority in Windows 10, so you can get your pc back up and running quickly.

Hard Drive not showing up in Boot Priority

Boot Menu not Displaying Hard Drive

If your hard drive isn’t appearing in the boot menu in Windows 10, try the options listed below, in no specific sequence, to determine if they help.

Method-1: Drivers for disk drives should be updated or reinstalled

A faulty or obsolete device driver might be to blame. In this situation, you can attempt updating/reinstalling disk drive drivers to check whether the issue is resolved. If this approach does not resolve the problem, move on to the next step.

Method-2: Examine the connection between the cord and the USB port

You’ll need two separate power cables to connect a disk drive with your device. A single SATA connection will link the motherboard and disk drive. The other SATA connector will be used to connect the hard drive to the SMPS or any other power source.

Your computer will be unable to identify the disk drive if you make mistakes. You also need to connect the SATA cord to the MOBO’s correct port. If the HDD/SSD data connector becomes loose or the USB port becomes unresponsive, you may have this problem. You might try switching to a different cable or USB port to see if it can be identified.

Method-3: Set up the disk drive

You can’t store data on a hard drive that hasn’t been activated, and BIOS won’t detect it, which might be the cause of the problem. With fresh hard drives, this is a typical issue. You might try to initialize the disk drive in this instance to determine if it works.

Method-4: Upgrade BIOS

You could try updating your BIOS to find if it makes a difference.

Method-5: In BIOS, activate the USB port

If your disk is not recognized because the USB port in BIOS is switched off, you could see this error. Unused ports on some motherboards are disabled by default in the BIOS. In this circumstance, you’ll have to go into the BIOS settings to figure out what’s going on.

Note: The BIOS configuration differs from one motherboard to another. If you’re having trouble accessing the BIOS, go over the information that came with your PC.

When you’re in the BIOS and notice that the USB port is disabled, execute the following to enable it:

  • Choose Advanced and head on to Onboard Devices or Integrated Peripherals from the menu using the arrow keys and press Enter.
  • Choose USB Controller.
  • To modify the setting to Enabled, click + or –.
  • After that, hit F10 to activate USB ports and leave BIOS.

The disk drive should now be displayed on the boot menu, so you can reboot your device and check whether it starts up correctly.

SSD not Showing up on Boot Option

A solid-state drive (SSD) is a wonderful approach to enhance PC speed and startup time, however, what if the SSD isn’t mentioned in the boot options? This might be an issue and hinder you from booting your SSD. There are a few options for dealing with this issue, which are addressed below.

  • Make use of AOMEI Backupper

It’s conceivable that you didn’t replicate your SATA SSD correctly if it’s not shown in boot options. To avoid problems like this, it’s a good idea to utilize a reputable backup program like AOMEI Backupper.

  • Examine your BIOS configurations

Activate the CSM option in your BIOS. After that, alter to AHCI from SATA. Following that, your SSD should appear in the boot choices. Read your motherboard handbook for information on how to find and modify these settings.

  • Launch the System with merely the SSD attached

You must first remove your computer case from the power supply and then disassemble it. After that, you must disconnect all drives except the SSD and reboot. Connect additional drives and see whether the problem is fixed if your system boots. If your pc was prebuilt, be warned that using this alternative might breach your warranty. Additionally, double-check that both the data and power cables are securely attached to your SSD disk.

Conclusion

There are occasions while using a computer you may encounter issues. One such issue might be the hard drive not showing up in boot priority Windows 10. This is a severe problem since your device will not function correctly. If you ever run into this problem, perhaps this article will assist you in resolving it.
